Fallout 3 - Continued Rigor
Stupid game, its been taking a lot more of my not-so-free time than I should allow, but it has been very immersive. I am still not tired of lobbing grenades in slow-mo, and then watching the legless corpse of the bastard who was trying to kill me go pirouetting through the air. Not tired at all.
One of my coolest moments was learning that the large mob of heavily armed super mutants WOULD follow me into a building, and kill me. Upon reloading I found that they no longer pursued me, so I had ample time to mine the hell out of the hallway and stairwell, poke my head out the door (presumably sticking out my tongue), then ducking back inside and running like hell to the second floor. Evidently your own mines will not detonate around you. A few moments later I hear the gravely voices of Super Mutants yelling out about eating me, then a few muffled pops and booms ensue. Two actually made it to the top, but the lead one hit the last mine I had laid out, and the last was easily gunned down. It was fun to go back down the hallway and count the Super Mutant chucks.
The game offers the Perk system as you level up, and as a homage to the original games (I guess) they included the Bloody Mess perk. Now in the original games this upped the gore factor of your kills noticeably, but in this iteration I don't see how it could help. The kills have been overwhelmingly blood soaked since the very beginning. Yes, there is arterial spray.
Bummer, you have to have training to wear power armor, and while this makes sense, it sucks. Especially since I haven't found out where or how to get training. I've run into the BoS, indeed I followed a pair of them through a building as they cleaned out Raiders. Fortunately the command post didn't have a problem with me looting their bodies, or coming back later to pickup the power armor suits that were too heavy to carry at the time. I still haven't found their main hub, though it has been eluded to as the Citadel. Bum, bum bum.
