Week 3 Day 17

Wednesday

Distance: 4 miles

Time: 50'16"

Weird. Laying in bed before the alarm went off my body seemed anxious, or nervous, to get out and run. I was nervous about going back out after 7 days of no running, I was nervous to find out that I had lost all my progress and would crap out. That didn't happen and I had a good run. Feels great to have gotten back in the saddle.

Recap

Week 2 Day 10: The wheels kind of came off for this run. Made a lot of mistakes, primarily not running in the morning, instead opting to run in the late evening. In my defense I had staid up late for a good cause and just didn't get the rest I needed for the next morning. To make things worse I had a lovely home cooked fajita dinner right after work and a michelada, this was a bad combo and even three and a half hours later I was still processing that. Mitzy tried to warn me, but I decided to go run around 8:30 anyway. I made it about 2 miles before I just completely crapped out, it was too humid and on top of everything I was just too dehydrated to go on.

Week 2 Day 11: Since vacation was eminent, and I was still out of sorts from the day before I didn't run this day.

Week 2 Day 13: Left around 4:00 in the morning the previous day to head to the beach...no running, but much driving. Had a great time on vacation! Went to Navarre, FL and Pensacola, both great spots, and despite Memorial day weekend the crowds were not bad.

Week 3 Day 15: Having returned very late the previous night I decided to sleep in and skip the running. Spend the day recuperating from fun and letting the sunburn ease a little.

Week 2 Day 8

Distance: 3 miles

Time: 34'36" (I think)

Tough run, cool morning, but low energy the whole way through. Ended up staying home from work, just didn't feel good after I got showered up and ended up sleeping until about 1:00 in the afternoon. Weird.

The Blue Cat seems to have fully recovered from his outside ordeal, and now I feel bad for not going home to see the folks this weekend, but I would have felt wretched if I'd gone off and left him alone.

Week 1 Day 6

Distance: 5 miles

Time: 59'47" (not sure exactly, messed up the clock as I stopped it)

Great run, cool morning and I made my goal of making it "around 1 hour". When I looked at my clock and saw I had a little under 8 minutes left I decided to really push it and see if I could make it under 60'. I'm please at the effort to accomplish my goal, I had to bust some ass to do it, but am extremely pleased that it was possible to do so after running 4 1/2 miles.

We came home yesterday to find Blue Cat outside of the apartment, which he is not supposed to be ever. He was stinky, scared and limping as we got him back into the house, he had been crammed into the corner of the fence in the small space between the deck and the space, smushed between the fence a bunch of old window screens. We promptly bathed him, Mitzy called the landlord only to find out that he'd had a handy man come by to look at the foundation. Blue Cat must have gotten out while they were here. It's upsetting that the landlord came into our apartment without letting us know, and unbelievably more frustrating that our cat was allowed to get outside, no one noticed and we were not told. After calling some of the local vets we had to take him to the emergency clinic. After a lot of anxiety it's clear that he's okay, a little roughed up, but okay. There's was worry about rabies, but it seems that that's very rare, and there was worry that he'd been hit by a car, but it looks like he got worked over by another cat.

As bad as he looked, with his cuts and bruises, I figure Blue Cat is saying, "Hey, you should see the other guy." : )

Week 1 Day 5

Distance: 0.0

Time: 0'0"

So, yeah. Anyway, today is a rest day, but that has left me some time to think about some things I need to accomplish outside of running, or need to accomplish to better facilitate running. First and formeost I need to make a real effort to reduce my weight. I'm currently hovering at a husky 230lbs, which I guesstimate is 30 pounds more than I should inflict upon my frame. Second, I need to take time on rest days to do alternative exercise, maybe swimming or biking. This, so far, has not been a successful endeavor. Interestingly, despite being a hypothetical 30 lbs. overweight I feel surprising comfortable. Odd.

On a side note, I am looking into acquiring a bicycle for commuting to work. East Dallas is small and my traveling necessities could, I'm imagining, be efficiently met by a bicycle. Additionally I would therefore get more exercise and save money on gas. Those, on the surface, would seem to be good things. I've spent about an hour exploring the Internet for answers to my most pressing questions, and most have been answered, but I still shudder when I think about the actual bicycle I'm going to purchase. My instinctive cheap-as-hell nature is to go to one of the myriad pawn shops in the area and buy a bike. My more impulsive nature really wants to blow $600+ bucks on something kickass and new. I guess my more gay, flamboyant side wants some white wall tires, fenders and style! Yeah.

Week 1 Day 4

Distance: 3 miles
Time: 35'02"

Good run, cool morning, bit more achey than usual but I shrug that off as having run 4 miles yesterday. Knee aches, but mitzy says it's my IT band...meh. I don't care for that. I was at 21' and something at 2 miles, so I'm not sure why mile 3 was so long. Guess because I was tired and the second uphill slog is harder the 2nd time around...duh.

Rest tomorrow, 5 miles Saturday.

And go watch THIS..cuz it's fucking awesome.

Week 1 Day 3

Distance: 4 miles

Time: 50'22"

It was pretty humid this morning, but not yet hot, a storm was slowly rumbling in and I got to see the flashes in the clouds. At some point it started to rain, but it never got heavier than a steady sprinkle. Due the longer distance covered and the humidity I went for a deliberately slower pace, though at 2 miles I was just under a 12 min. mile, my regular pace. I lost time somewhere. I'm not worried about it and only mention it as a curiosity. This was a great run, my endurance really held up the whole way. Tomorrow is back to a 3 miler, then rest day, then a 5 miler. I'm really looking forward to that, though I will have to go to the lake and find good stretch of trail.

My current course is a long, low incline, a shallow hill you could say. The loop is just a tad under 2 miles, so I get a long almost 1 mile incline every time around. I'm hoping this will make me faster on a nice flat course. I'm not supposed to be concerned about this, but I find it is hard not to.

Week 1 Day 1

Distance: 3 miles

Time: 35’24" (just a hair under 36 minutes)

Cold morning, and a good run. The distance was measured out by driving around the ‘hood with the car last night, I now have a good 3 mile route and 4 mile route. I’m guessing that’s accurate. My time wasn’t what I was hoping for, but it was what I expected, so that’s not disappointing. This is my first week running mileage as opposed to just running a specific time. I’ve regularly run 30 and 35 minutes over the last few weeks and I now have one 40 minute run under my belt. I’m starting to feel like a real runner. So far my legs, muscles and bones have all felt fine, no aches or pains. I’m very paranoid about injury, so this has been a long process, and most of the running sites urge you to not push yourself too hard. At first I thought that was stupid, but as strange as it my sound, I’ve found myself wanting to do more, especially when you really hit that zone and it feels like you could run forever.

Tomorrow is a rest day. Wednesday is 4 miles.
