Oscar
I half-assed watched the Oscars last night, and I am pleased overall. Most of the categories I couldn’t really give a rat’s ass about, but the one’s where I had any kind of interest all swung the way I would have like them to. I was particularly surprised and excited when I saw that “Falling Slowly” from “Once” was nominated, and I was ecstatic when it won! I absolutely adored the film and so glad to see that it got thatrecognition on a grand stage.
I’ve been a big Coen Bros. fan ever since I first saw The Big Lebowski, and it made me happy to see them win so many awards. I still haven’t seen No Country for Old Men, but it has been and continues to be high on my list of “to see” movies. I was a little disappointed that Juno writer Diablo what’s-her-name won, I am happy for her, but I thought the film, while delightful, was really just a bit of feel good fluff. But maybe it’s good that in a year where the top nominees were all so violent that a soft, feel good movie got some recognition.
Jon Stewart did a sound job on stage as host, he has a good presence, both comedic and otherwise. I’m not an avid fan, but I admit he went up a few notches when he brought Markéta Irglová back out so she got her moment in the spotlight. I doubt it was all his idea, but it was great gesture!
