Burning Fury

Crazy Bucky.gifI burnt myself out on bitching about this last night. So you get the afterbirth of my rage. I can only dimly imagine your excitement.

I work out, come home and shower, then eat, play a little WoW and at 8:00 I go to the pool to watch some hockey. I grab two beers before leaving the apartment. TV is off upon my arrival at the little TV gazebo thing, which I deem as good. From initial impressions this means no one is using the TV and I'm free to watch hockey. This is what my brain computed with the most naive hopefulness and good will.

Evidently there are some people in this world, whom when they see an available TV in a public area, feel that they have some God-enabled right to program the DVR to record a baseball game, the pre-game show before it and, I'm assuming just for good measure, the god forsaken fishing show before that. Then lock it so no one else might be able to watch what they want to watch. You know, because a TV by the pool is obviously not there for everyone to use, just gooey brained fishing/baseball fans.

It's the underlying principle of the thing that really gets me going. Sure, there's the obvious reason: they're going to play baseball from now until sometime in goddamned October. I ask you, is it really necessary to record the fucking game? Now I would not have minded in the least if someone had claimed the TV before me and been there actually WATCHING a fucking baseball game. Then I would have silently questioned their taste in sports viewing and left, accepting that I would have to wait my turn to use the TV. I'm ok with that. What we're talking about here is NOT being there and NOT watching the game, but definitely keeping others who ARE present from watching what they want.

I'm sure whoever did this is a perfectly normal, good person, but I can't help wanting to pull their spine out and beat them to death with it. I don't ask for a lot from life. I've put up all year with no hockey and this was the one time I had an opportunity to watch a game. I doubt I should be mad at the individual and maybe just more upset with fate in general, but seeing as how my biggest complaint about life right now is not getting to watch a hockey game I think I'll let it go.

So let me understand - they DVRd a game while you wanted to watch something else, which meant you had to watch the baseball game? I don't have a DVR so please explain.

Fortunately the situation didn't require me to stay and watch the baseball game. I was quite free to storm off in a flurry of cursing back to my apartment where I drowned my sorrows in three beers.

I don't own a DVR either, which is why there was much button mashing and mumbled swearing. All I could discern from what was presented is that 1. The DVR was recording. 2. The remote was locked and I couldn't change the channel. 3. I didn't get to watch hockey.

I miss hockey bunny, I miss it! *sob*

Well aren't there smaller leagues for that? There's a team that plays in Frisco that someone I work with goes to see all the time. Personally I have a hard time getting it up to go north of Mockingbird, but if you're so jonesing for hockey, you should at least try it, no?

You know, I've had that very same conversation with myself...go to Frisco, go to Ft.Worth...but like yourself I have trouble working up the gumption to go much north of Mockingbird...it's an odd situation.
