Bad, Bitter & Warming
The bad. Not that this is surprising, I think all of us hockey fans have seen the writing on the wall for a long time. At this point I'm just surprised they haven't called it quits completely and called off the season. I mean really, how many of us want to see a 20 game season?
The bitter. Nice article about the moron's who are destroying the NHL, because…well…they're morons.
I'm actually starting to feel ambivalent about the whole thing anyway. I've lost interest and I wonder how many other NHL fans have too. If I had a minor league team close by (Ft. Worth is starting to look close) I wouldn't care at all if the NHL ever plays again. Hell if they start up next year I may still not care and if enough of us don't where is that going to leave these bickering, hard headed assholes.
*UPDATE* Add scathing to the list. Good article.
Warming. To end on a positive note, this is a great little article remembering the miracle team. I got a little misty eyed on this one.

As much as I'd like to say that I wouldn't care if the NHL did start back up again, it would be a lie. I would care and I would be excited. I just love the game and I've grown to love watching certain players do their thing on the ice. I miss the action, the checks, the powerplays, and the electric excitement that comes in the last minutes of a close game. Despite everything that's happened (or hasn't happened, really), I do care. *sigh*

I'm sure some small part of me still cares, but this whole debacle has really cleared the cob webbing from my eyes and I can see how bad the NHL really is. Having watched some international hockey games back around Christmas, I can say wholeheartedly that the game that the NHL puts on the ice is inferior. That's a shame too when you think of the talent levels available. Even if they resolve this labor dispute before next season the league is going to have go through some big changes to stay alive. The other major sports leagues have got them beat and even NASCAR ranks above the NHL. Quite frankly, when people would rather watch cars go around in a circle I think it's safe to say you have a problem.
About the only reason I still care about the NHL is that they don't televise any minor league games, but if they did I don't think I'd miss it at all. Besides, the minors are every bit as fun to watch live, the stadiums are smaller, it's a hell of a lot cheaper and there's usually a lot more physical play. As you can tell I'm feeling pretty bitter about it all…the NHL can go to hell, as that seems to be where it's headed anyway.
