Geeky goodness

I've been reading a lot of online comics lately, and I'm sure "a lot" is relative to some people out there, but I'm slowly and tentatively putting my foot into the great unexplored world of comics. My favorites so far are PVP and Underpower, though CTRL-ALT-DEL is one that I look forward too. PVP has taken up a lot of my time, at the State's expense (EG), as I've been making my way through the archives. Let me tell you, the guy has put out a mostly daily strip since 1998, so that adds up to quite a volume.

We finished the Cowboy Bebop series last week. I'm sad that it's over, which says something about how I liked the series. Some of the episodes were a little shaky, but the characters really grew on me and I got really attached to them. As I'm starting to learn, anime endings are often left up in the air and they aren't usually happy, at least in the way we think of happy endings. I enjoyed it though, and we're going to watch the movie soon, though I already have mixed feelings about it...apprehension, since for me the story is over and I don't know where their going to plop it into the story arc. It's even a little painful, in an odd way. If you've seen the series I figure you'll understand that....I don't want to give anything away.

I read a comic called WE3, about cybernetic animals used as weapons platforms. Of course they escape their prison and get out into the world, but the art work was amazing and I love the way they did the panels, or boxes, or whatever you call them. I just read Understanding Comics…so I feel authorized to comment on that. I'm also reading Watchmen, which is very groovy so far…it kind of reminds me of RR Martin's Wildcard series (of which I've only read a bit of the first book).

Anyhoo…
